This preamp is a real gem. There are many who believe that this is one of the very best preamps ever made. Designed by Charlie Hansen, it incorporates circuit topologies like dual differential balanced circuits, zero feedback, patented power supply technology called Ayre Conditioner, and a special volume control using solid silver contacts that eliminate wiring.
The late Charles Hansen was considered one of the best designers ever in our industry. He was a physicist, started Avalon Acoustics, sold it a few years later, and started Ayre Acoustics.
The company's ethos was to reproduce music as neutrally as possible, with no added coloration, but not in a way that made music sterile and cold. The K-1xe preamp exemplifies this perfectly. Music is reproduced as it was recorded. Superior recordings are stunning, shockingly so. The resolution and accuracy is easily comparable to today's top preamps, but at a FRACTION of the cost!
Frankly if I didn't already have too many pieces in my collection, I would keep this one for myself.
