Sound Performance
Utilizing the same flagship AKM AK4499EX & AAK4191 system as in Shanling’s SCD1.3 SACD player, the SM1.3 provides a detailed and precise sound that has a little bit of warmth and smoothness for a natural presentation. The SM1.3 also gives you the option to upsample all content to high-res PCM or DSD for slightly different sonic presentation to suit your preference.

With XLR and RCA outputs in line out mode or using its well-implemented volume control, the SM1.3 functions not only a top-notch streamer but DAC/preamp as well. In addition, the dedicated 6.3mm TPA6120 headphone output provides compatibility for a wide variety of audiophile headphones.

Linear Power Supplies - Dual 31W Toroidal Transformers
With transformers for both analogue and digital sections, you’re ensuring pristine power without interference between the two sides. This results in cleaner and more stable power than a switching power supply. Quality power is crucial to sound quality and this implementation is one of the reasons for the SM1.3’s impeccable sonics.

Advanced Digital Transport – FPGA Powered I2S
If you choose to use the SM1.3 as a digital transport connecting to a high-end DAC, in addition to USB, coaxial and optical outputs it also features an advanced I2S output. With a dedicated FPGA circuit, it can easily adjust its I2S pinout, for assured compatibility to most DACs available.
