The DMP-A8 Gen 2's sound, with a clock system and CD transport built for people who notice the difference.

The standard A8 Gen 2 already covers the fundamentals extremely well — the Master Edition exists for the listener chasing the last measurable bit of timing precision, plus the ability to spin physical discs without an outboard transport. It starts from the exact same AK4191EQ/AK4499EX conversion path and R2R preamp stage, then adds a high-precision OCXO crystal clock with PLL synchronization and a femtosecond-level system clock on top.

The power supply gets similar treatment: a fully separated digital/analog architecture brings the noise floor down to a genuinely low 20µV, which is part of why detail retrieval and background quietness are noticeably better here than on the standard model. A custom-built internal CD playback mechanism — more robust than a typical generic optical drive — lets you rip or play discs directly without routing through separate hardware, and a 10MHz external clock input means it can slot into an even more serious system down the line if you decide to add a standalone master clock.

If you want the DMP-A8 platform's sound taken as far as Eversolo will currently take it, this is that version.
