The Bryston BDA-3 2.0 is designed for listeners who want to hear more from their digital music without changing the character of the recording. Supporting PCM up to 384 kHz / 32-bit and DSD up to DSD256, it works with everything from music servers and computers to CD transports and other digital sources. The goal is not to add its own flavour, but to preserve the detail, timing and musical character already present in the recording.

More than just a DAC chip

Great digital playback depends on much more than the conversion chip itself. The BDA-3 2.0 uses a balanced pair of AKM DACs alongside Bryston’s ultra-precise re-clocking system, which replaces incoming PCM clock information to help reduce jitter and improve timing accuracy. Its electrical digital inputs are also galvanically isolated to help keep ground noise from connected equipment out of the signal path. Together, these design choices help deliver a cleaner, more focused and more natural presentation.

PCM and DSD handled the way they should be

Rather than forcing PCM and DSD through the same processing path, the BDA-3 2.0 uses dedicated signal paths for each format. This allows high-resolution files to remain bit-perfect through to the balanced DAC stage without unnecessary conversion between formats. Two asynchronous USB inputs support DSD up to DSD256, while PCM playback extends all the way to 384 kHz / 32-bit, giving the BDA-3 2.0 the flexibility to handle virtually any high-resolution music library.

Discrete Class A from digital to analog

Once the signal has been converted to analog, Bryston uses its own fully discrete Class A output circuitry instead of relying on conventional integrated operational amplifiers. This helps preserve detail, dynamics and tonal integrity before the signal reaches your preamplifier or integrated amplifier. Separate power supplies for the digital and analog sections further reduce interference between the two stages, bringing Bryston’s experience with high-performance analog electronics directly into its digital playback.

Choose native playback or upsampling

The BDA-3 2.0 lets you decide how compatible PCM recordings are processed. Its selectable upsampling can convert 44.1 kHz and 88.2 kHz signals to 176.4 kHz, while 48 kHz and 96 kHz signals can be increased to 192 kHz. Standard 16-bit material is also expanded to 24-bit. Prefer to hear the original file without upsampling? Simply leave the feature switched off and enjoy native playback.

Built to be the digital centre of your system

Six digital inputs, including two USB, AES/EBU, two S/PDIF and Toslink optical, make it easy to connect multiple digital sources to one high-performance DAC. IR, RS-232, IP and 12V trigger control also make the BDA-3 2.0 easy to integrate into both dedicated two-channel systems and more advanced installations.
