Atohm Rafale VR1-X Subwoofer

Sealed subwoofers are usually the compact, well-mannered choice, and vented ones are usually the bigger, deeper-hitting choice — the VR1-X is built to blur that line. It keeps a footprint similar to many sealed designs, but a specially engineered 23cm driver and an optimized vented enclosure give it genuine low-end extension and dynamic headroom that punches well above what its size would suggest.

The driver itself is the real story here: a specific alloy cone stays rigid even under heavy mechanical strain, while an unusually strong 156mm motor — using Atohm's "force without inductance" technology — gives it a level of sensitivity that's rare for a driver built specifically for subwoofer duty. A 220W Class D amplifier module drives it with up to ±20mm of excursion, with X-Guard actively protecting against over-excursion and U-Guard softening clipping before it turns into audible distortion. The result, per Atohm's own measurements, is 111dB of clean output with very low distortion — enough genuine dynamic range for both music and home theater use.
