When Val Cora finally decided to turn his passion into Acora Acoustics, he spared no expense. Everything was examined and painstakingly tested:
Drivers
The best Beryllium tweeter was chosen for its incredible speed, clarity and transparency. The 7" midrange/woofer drivers were chosen after testing hundreds of options. This custom-voiced driver uses a special sandwich/paper composite which gives it the rigidity, speed and natural harmonics.
Crossover
Crossover parts are chosen for their sound and performance. The crossover is designed for perfect phase alignment and driver integration, it allows each component to perform at its best — with effortless coherence and dynamic ease. Internally, the layout is optimized for signal purity and mechanical isolation. This is why the speakers can go so low, play so loud and effortlessly in huge rooms!
Enclosure
The vast majority of speakers use wood or MDF. Some use Aluminum or composite material. Acora tried them all and rejected them. Ultimately, only Stone had the hardness, density and rigidity to allow the drivers to perform at their best. The QRC2 uses Quartz which has very similar characteristics as Granite, at a lower cost. By using Quartz, the enclosure holds the drivers rigidly so that only the cones resonate, thus giving the most accurate and neutral performance. No cabinet resonance to color the sound
Also, because the stone is so rigid, there is no need for internal bracing, thus allowing maximum internal volume for the best bass depth and power for such a small speaker
Rated sensitivity is 92.5 dB, 4 ohms, which means it is quite easy to drive. If you've heard Acora at shows, you know that the speakers are always in huge rooms, yet there is no strain at all, even with tube amplifiers.
I remember very clearly the first time I heard Acora speakers at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Audio Show. The huge room was divided into 2 listening sections by room dividing cloth. Each section was still very large. The little SRB speakers sounded MUCH bigger and filled the room very easily. The SRC2 blew me away with its speed, leading edge like a superb electrostatic speaker, but with full range bass. The imaging was sharp with outrageously huge sound stage.
I was sold. After years of hoping, I had finally found a truly world class Canadian speaker with NO Apologies! One that EASILY competes with the very best.
Don't take my word for it. Just search "Acora" online and see the multitudes of reviews and show reports. Acora gets "Best Sound of the Show" almost every time.
Here are some review quotes:
Dave McNair, Part Time Audiophile Magazine
Dave is a world-renowned professional Mastering Engineer
"So what do these beauties sound like? I’ll confess to not only enjoying the hell outta listening to stuff by myself, I REALLY had fun playing DJ for other folks I invited over (masked and distance observed) to marvel at the sounds. With the Acora Acoustics SRC-2 in the system, I had one person physically jump and shout “Whoa!” when the acoustic slide guitar enters in the right speaker on the Beck cut “Side Of The Road” off his masterpiece Sea Change. That person also exclaimed “Everything sounds so real it kinda freaks me out. The musicians are right here!” and gestured to the area in front of the speakers."
Rick Becker, Enjoy the Music
"Acora Acoustics' QRC 2 feels like an end game, performing at the level of the best rooms I hear at shows, most often with far more expensive systems costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. The tonal color (timbre, if you wish), resolution of inner detail, macro and micro dynamics, transparency, and the effortlessness it brings to the listening experience put the Acora QRC 2 solidly among world-class speakers."
Notes:
1. Canadian buyers please add the appropriate tax
2. Buyer pays shipping and all associated import costs. The speakers weigh about 180 lbs each before boxing
